If you know me at all, one of the last things you might describe me as is a shopaholic. Most of my wardrobe consists of clothes that people have bought and gifted me or stuff that I’ve happen to pick up in my travels.

Which is why a few of my recent purchases have surprised me so much. I’ve bought 2 shirts, a pair of shorts, and 2 hats. I wouldn’t really describe myself as an impulsive person, but this stuff caught my eye and I decided to jump on the deals.

Shirt 1: Relevant Store

I happen to follow @RELEVANTMag on twitter and they announced some new shirts on their online store, they said they were going to be on discount for a limited time so I decided to check it out.

I’m a huge fan of what Relevant is doing and what they are about, and I knew I was probably going to find something I liked. And I did. I found this, I’m still not sure if I can pull it off, but hey, I got it at a great price.

Shirt 2: Helvetica Bold

I’m not going to talk about this very much, it is self-explanatory. (I’m pretty much a moth drawn to light when it comes to fonts.) Helvetica Bold – Black. Sure, I could have probably done without this shirt, but I mean… well… shut up!

Shorts: Insight Shorts

If you don’t know what Jack Threads is, they describe themselves as the following:

JackThreads is an “invite only” shopping community selling apparel, sneakers, and accessories from well respected brands within the street/skate subcultures, all specially priced for our members.

Think of them as a more classy version of Woot that focuses primarily on Men’s Apparel and is ‘invite only’ that give very large discounts to their members. Most of their stuff is way to cool for me, but I signed up for them to examine their online business strategy and web design & code (and think through what I would improve if I had the chance) and never unsubscribed. I know, I know… I’m a nerd (and lazy at that), save it.

Anyways, I got these in white, with navy stripes and I must say, they are fly (I don’t use the word fly, but it seems fitting here). If you are interested in an invite, fill out my contact form and just ask nicely, I’ll see what I can do.

2 Flat caps

I recently got back from South Padre Island and as is customary with most trips I brought back a couple of souvenirs. Two flat caps to be specific. Honestly, I really wanted a kick ass Fedora, but I couldn’t pull it off. After being sad and dejected, I tried on one a black pinstriped flat cap and I thought it looked cool enough. I still don’t if I can pull it off, but I’ve been sporting them around this week, and well… I feel cooler at least. I’m sure passer-bys are thinking, “Douche” but who gives a damn. I got the black pinstripe one and a khaki-ish one too, so I’m ready to rock.

Seriously though, this is very unusual for me, I hardly buy things, especially clothes… I’m not materialistic, promise! So, if I made a terrible mistake or you like an item, let me know. Have you bought anything recently you are excited about?

So, I just moved into a new apartment and I need some wall art. I’ve decided to design a handful of posters at 16×20. Since I enjoy type and typography, I’ve chosen this subject for my first poster design.

Here is the clincher, because of the grid I set up for the project I have 14 fonts to chose from that will be ‘showcased’ (aside from Helvetica, of course).

If you had to chose 14 fonts, based on typographical prowess and aesthetic, what would they be?

Introducing the Letter A

There are so many interesting and downright beautiful fonts out there I’m wondering what kind of responses I’ll get back. For this particular design, I’ll be focusing on the first letter of the English alphabet, “a”. For no real reason other than I think it is visually the sexiest letters around, (closely followed by ‘g’, ‘s’, ‘y’; all of this is my opinion of course…)

So, here we are, I want your input, I want the sexiest fonts you can muster. Leave comments and I might include one of your fonts in my poster!
